Texas County Memorial Hospital – Multiple Projects

Texas County Memorial Hospital

Location: Houston, Missouri

This multi-phase expansion project stemmed from the master plan that was complete in 2008, providing a new core addition to the existing hospital structure and renovation of existing spaces allowing for department growth. The project will help Texas County Memorial Hospital achieve a new level of care as well as prepare them to meet any future needs. The master plan allows for future additions of the surgery department and intensive care unit. Future site expansions may include a long-term care facility or more medical office space depending on the direction the hospital may take with their strategic growth plan.

Phase One – Construction of Patient Tower:

The new patient tower is the key component to the expansion project as it will have a significant impact on the delivery of health services by providing heightened privacy, increased patient comfort, improved capacity in the emergency room, latest technology, and enhanced patient care.

The two-story, 59,000 SF addition will include a new, larger emergency department. The urgent care clinic and a radiology suite will be conveniently located near the emergency department. On the second floor of the tower, the new medical surgical patient area houses 24 new, private patient rooms.

Phase Two – Renovation of Existing Spaces:

As called for in the second phase, approximately 12,000 SF of the existing space was renovated to expand some departments. Some of the departments affected were cardiac rehabilitation, respiratory therapy, physical therapy, pharmacy, and laboratory. Additional offices and departments, critical to the operation of the hospital, were also remodeled after the new addition was occupied. These support spaces include administration, education, public relations, housekeeping, bio-medical, and emergency medical service.

Acute Care Patient Rooms:

With construction of the patient tower (phase I), the addition of new patient rooms will allow the hospital to take the non-conforming south wing out of service. This wing was constructed in the 1950’s with the original building structure. The master plan calls for this south wing to be replaced as Texas County Memorial Hospital looks to potentially develop new services or further enhance current programming.

As proposed, the constructed east wing will remain in service and potentially be utilized for extended stay, swing bed patients and it will be available for any overflow situations.

Phase Three – FEMA Safe Room and Surgery Expansion:

In 2012, Texas County Memorial Hospital applied for and received a community development lock grant for construction of a FEMA shelter. HMN designed the 4,000 SF community safe room as part of a larger building addition, which included a new 8,000 SF surgery department featuring 2 operating rooms, a procedure room, pre-and post-operating rooms, central sterile process and staff lounge.
